Style Research Releases Q1 Factor Performance Study

Wednesday 12th April, 2017

BOSTON, MA – April 11th, 2017 – Style Research, an independent, global provider of portfolio style, risk and performance analytics, today released the results of their Q1 Factor Performance Study via live webinar. The study, which encompassed North America, Global, European and Emerging Markets, breaks down how various factors performed in Q1 2017.

Key takeaways from the US and Global analysis include what appears to be a reversal from from Value to Growth, potentially marking the conclusion of the remarkable Value surge that closed out 2016. In Emerging Market equities, we saw continued strength in specific value factors such as book-to-price and sales-to-price; strength in forecast growth factors and a weak performance from Quality factors after a strong close to 2016.

“Factor-based investment strategies have risen to prominence in recent years,” said Bernie Nelson, President, North America of Style Research. “It’s vital that investment professionals understand how specific factors are performing in the markets, and how that impacts specific portfolios – especially those that appear highly similar at surface level.”

The Q1 Factor Performance study was released as part of Style Research’s ongoing series of quarterly and monthly style summaries. The studies provide unique, factor-based perspectives to help investment professionals understand the connections between markets, peer groups and individual portfolios when making strategic decisions.
